The Bay Area is scheduled to host the 2025 All-Star game.
SAN FRANCISCO–NBA Commissioner Adam Silver revealed on Monday evening that the Golden State Warriors will be the hosts for the 74th NBA All-Star game in 2025. This will mark the first time the Bay Area has hosted an all-star weekend since 2000, and the third time in franchise history.
The Bay Area originally hosted the All-Star game in 1967, with the two teams competing at Cow Palace. Hometown hero Rick Barry clinched the MVP award as the Western Conference defeated the Eastern Conference 135 to 120. The 2000 All-Star weekend was held at the Oakland Arena, featuring renowned players such as Vince Carter, Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Grant Hill, and Alonzo Mourning. The Vince Carter dunk contest stands out as one of the most memorable in NBA history.

Warriors owner Joe Lacob emphasized the significance of Steph Curry playing in front of home fans for the first time in his All-Star careerSundry Photography if he remains with Golden State and is selected as an All-Star. Last year, Curry scored 50 points, the third-highest in an All-Star game, behind Jayson Tatum with 55. Commissioner Adam Silver mentioned that various concepts are being considered for All-Star weekend in San Francisco, including a potential Ryder Cup-type format or US players competing against global players.
“People are discussing different concepts for All-Star, and this is a great market to experiment with new ideas. When you think of innovation, you think of the Bay Area, San Francisco, and the Oakland Area,” said Silver.
The Chase Center is a premier venue known for its artistry
It has been four years since the Golden State Warriors moved from Oakland to San Francisco and established the splendidly constructed Chase Center. Hosting nearly 200 sports and entertainment events annually, the Center in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco offers a unique and innovative culinary experience for visitors.
This is the second major announcement for the Bay Area this year, following the recent news that the Golden State Warriors will have a WNBA Expansion team. Mayor London Breed expressed great enthusiasm about the news, along with Warriors owners Peter Guber, Joe Lacob, and Brandon Schneider, Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer.
“It will bring substantial revenue and visitors,” stated Mayor London Breed. “We anticipate 135,000 people coming to the Bay Area and expect over 350 million to be injected into our economy through local businesses, job opportunities, and other activities surrounding All-Star weekend.”
She also emphasized that the Bay Area has been a work in progress and has seen significant development in recent years.
Several All-Star weekend celebrations are in the works
“For our fans in the Bay Area, the All-Star festivities in 2025 will make this the epicenter of basketball worldwide,” said Commissioner Adam Silver.
The all-star events will commence on Feb. 14, beginning with the rookies. Various events are scheduled for Feb. 15, including the AT&T Slam Dunk contest. The competitions will conclude on Feb. 16 with the NBA All-Star game. The NBA has announced that there will be a wide array of events suitable for all ages.
Warriors owner Peter Gruber expressed that it was a “dream” for this to happen 14 years ago, and their aspirations have now become a reality.
“We always envisioned building a new venue, a world-class venue, and we accomplished it. We also envisioned having a great team, a great fanbase, and bringing the All-Star game back to San Francisco with style and grace, offering a fantastic experience for our fans and the global fanbase,” said Gruber.
This announcement comes after the NBA revealed plans to revert to its original Eastern Conference versus Western Conference format. The 2024 All-Star weekend is set to take place from Feb. 15 through Feb. 18 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
