National High School Athletes of the Week: Apr. 28
1. Jhon Abreu, sr., Wellington (Florida) baseball
Abreu, who has signed with Florida Gulf Coast, went 3 for 4 at the plate while also delivering a remarkable no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Park Vista.
2. Kenyon Andrews, jr., Hazen (Washington) track
Andrews shattered the Washington record in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing first with a time of 36.24 seconds during a dual meet against Bellevue—a time that currently ranks second nationally this spring.
3. Sawyer Brinkman, sr., Golden (Colorado) baseball
Brinkman achieved an impressive feat by completing a five-inning perfect game with 12 strikeouts, leading his team to a 10-0 victory over Standley Lake.
4. Landen Doll, sr., Jackson (Ohio) baseball
Doll, heading to Marshall, tallied 12 strikeouts while walking one and not yielding a hit in a 5-0 triumph over Hoover.
5. Nolan Epperson, sr., Mark Twain (Missouri) baseball
Epperson registered 5 2/3 no-hit innings with an astounding 17 strikeouts, leading Mark Twain to a commanding 10-0 win against Wellsville-Middletown.
6. Maurice Gleaton Jr., sr., Langston Hughes (Georgia) track
Gleaton Jr. made history as the first sub-10 100 runner in Georgia high school history during the Class 5A Region 5 meet, achieving a wind-legal time of 9.98 seconds—the quickest recorded time in the country this year.
7. Devin Gonor, sr., El Camino (California) baseball
Gonor struck out 12 batters across 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball, leading El Camino to a 5-0 win over Taft.
8. Brayden Harris, jr., St. Johns Country Day (Florida) baseball
Harris, committed to Florida State, recorded 18 strikeouts over six innings while allowing just two hits in a 10-0 victory against Covenant.
9. Paul Hoekman, sr., Sioux Falls Christian (South Dakota) track
Hoekman set a personal record in shot put with a throw of 66 feet, 5 inches at the Legion Relays, placing him fifth nationally this season.
10. Tayvon Kitchen, sr., Crater (Oregon) track
Kitchen established a new national record in the 3,200 meters at the Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays, clocking a winning time of 8:33.82.
11. McKay Madsen, sr., Clovis North (California) track
Madsen ascended to 11th place on California’s all-time shot put list with a top throw of 68-4 at the Sanger Metric Classic. This BYU football signee also claimed victory in the discus with a throw of 201-6.
12. Chase McGee, sr., Camas (Washington) track
McGee set a new pole vault record in Washington with a clearance of 17-5 during a dual meet with Union, marking the third-best height in the nation this year.
13. Kingi McNair, sr., Pearl (Mississippi) track
McNair surpassed the Mississippi long jump record by six inches with an impressive jump of 25-10 at the Class 7A South State meet, making it the best mark in the nation this season. He also excelled in the triple jump, finishing first with a distance of 48-3.5.
14. Tyson Seeser, sr., Camanche (Iowa) track
Seeser secured his second consecutive high jump title at the Drake Relays, clearing 7-0. He is now one of only nine high school boys this season to jump over 7 feet.
15. Roberto Topete, sr., Los Osos (California) baseball
Topete went 4 for 4 during a 10-4 win over Upland.
16. John Woodward, jr., Jefferson-Morgan (Pennsylvania) baseball
Woodward smashed two home runs—both in the third inning—enabling Jefferson-Morgan to easily defeat Brownsville, 14-2.
